How Much Does an Animated Video Cost: What Drives the Price

"How much does a video cost" is like "how much does a renovation cost": without details there is no honest answer. Here is what the price is made of and how to get an accurate quote quickly.

Why there is no single price

A 15-second clip can be plain text with moving elements, while another one of the same length needs separate characters, scenes and complex animation. To the client both are "a short video". To the maker they are very different amounts of work.

That is why "price per minute" figures without context are misleading. The honest way is to describe the task briefly, go through a brief and get a quote for the specific video.

What the cost is made of

  • Length and number of scenes. More scenes mean more drawing and animation.
  • Style and complexity. Simple 2D graphics, motion design with icons and text, and character animation differ a lot in effort.
  • Script and storyboard. If they exist, there is less work. If they have to be invented and written, that is a separate stage.
  • Voiceover and music. A narrator, music selection and sound effects add work.
  • Number of revisions. One or two rounds are built into the work, endless rework is not.
  • Number of formats. Horizontal for YouTube, vertical for Reels and Shorts, square for the feed: each format needs adapting.

What affects the budget most

Usually it is not length but complexity and unprepared materials. If the goal is vague, the video gets redone several times, and that increases both cost and timing.

Another factor is whether the animation starts from scratch or you already have a brand style, illustrations and a logo to build from.

How to get an accurate quote

You do not need a five-page technical spec. For a brief, answering a few questions is enough:

  • What is the goal: sales, explanation, brand intro, promoting an offer?
  • Where will it run: your site, Google Ads, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok?
  • What is the approximate length?
  • Do you have a script, logo, brand colors, illustrations?
  • Do you need voiceover, music, subtitles?
  • Which videos do you like as examples?

With these answers I can estimate the scope and give you a price and timing for your video.

How to save without losing quality

  • Define the goal clearly before work starts; it cuts revisions better than anything else.
  • Start with one short video and test it in ads before ordering a series.
  • Provide ready materials: logo, product photos, text.
  • Send all revisions as one list, not in pieces.
  • Say upfront which formats you need.

Where to start

Message me on Telegram, describe the task briefly and send a few examples. I will tell you if anything needs clarifying and prepare a quote. If the video is for ads or social media, we can also discuss how it fits your strategy.
